Permanent Collections – Le Grand Curtius
Le Grand Curtius, an internationally renowned museum of art and history, brings together exceptional collections across more than 5,000 m², organised into five departments: Weapons, Archaeology, Religious Art and Meuse Art, Glass (the Glass Department is currently in storage) and Decorative Arts. Housed in a remarkable architectural complex, notably the 17th-century Curtius Palace, the museum offers a journey spanning from prehistory to the contemporary era. The masterpieces on display bear witness to the artistic, artisanal and industrial expertise that has shaped the history of Liège and its principality.
Exhibition: ‘When Paganini Meets Ysaÿe: The Devils’ Violins’
Organised under the auspices of the City of Liège – a UNESCO Creative City of Music and a member of the European Paganini Route network and the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes – the exhibition reaffirms Liège’s place amongst Europe’s leading centres of musical culture. It invites visitors on a unique journey to the heart of Europe’s violin tradition, from Genoa to Liège, from Paganini to Ysaÿe. The exhibition highlights the extraordinary legacy of Niccolò Paganini (1782–1840) and his influence on the Liège School of Violin. Through autograph manuscripts, historical instruments, scores, previously unpublished archive material and exceptional memorabilia, it reveals how the genius of the Genoese master profoundly influenced several generations of European musicians.
