To mark the tenth anniversary of the Musée de La Boverie, discover how Belgium became one of the most fertile hotbeds of Impressionism. This major exhibition celebrates the boldness of a movement we think we know, yet which still holds many secrets.

From Paris to Brussels, then the true capital of the European avant-garde, embark on an unprecedented trail. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover nearly 150 masterpieces from Belgian and international collections, rarely displayed side by side.

To shed light on this pivotal chapter of European culture, the exhibition brings together masterpieces from more than thirty prestigious institutions. Over twenty Belgian museums are partnering with major international counterparts, including the Musée d’Orsay and the Petit Palais in Geneva.

You will have the privilege of admiring unprecedented, face-to-face encounters between, for example, the leading lights of our Belgian heritage such as James Ensor, Théo Van Rysselberghe, Anna Boch, or Émile Claus, and French giants such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, or Alfred Sisley.

This curation also pays rightful tribute to the essential female artists of the movement, such as Juliette Wytsman, Yvonne Serruys, or Jenny Montigny, whose talent left an indelible mark on the Impressionist adventure.

The permanent collections showcase the finest works from the City of Liège’s Fine Arts collections.

Through a chronological journey spanning from the 16th century to the present day, artistic creation from Liège and around the world is represented here. Throughout the tour, visitors can (re)discover renowned artists: Ingres, Monet, Pissarro, Signac, Magritte, Magnelli, Appel, Van Dongen, not to mention Liège’s most famous artists such as Gérard de Lairesse, Léonard Defrance and Adrien de Witte...

A highlight of the tour is dedicated to the works acquired at the Lucerne (Switzerland) auction in 1939: Marc, Kokoschka, Lieberman, Pascin and Chagall.
